Sunday Stickies // 30 August 2015

Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually.

Note: It is currently 4.33am on Sunday morning. We came home from the art market at 3am and have been working on this post just for you! 🙂 Please forgive any weird sentence structures or grammar errors. We tried our best 🙂

It is the end of August! This means it is the end of our experiment of participating in weekly art markets as well as our challenge of daily vegetarian lunches!

August has been a busy and tiring, yet rewarding and fun month. We made a lot of new friends (customers and fellow vendors), saw a sharp spike in our sales, and ate a lot of vegetables.

We are definitely taking it easy in September and would most likely surface in public just once – next week at Red Dot Design Museum. We are feeling super zapped out as we are actually introverts by nature. Haha! It is time to recharge!

2 more days of eating vegetarian lunches and we will be done with our challenge. It was not as difficult as we thought it would be. In fact, we may try it again and up the ante in another month. But for now, we are craving beef!

Min: August means a lot to me because it’s both my fiancé and my birthday month, with our birthdates only 6 days apart. This year’s birthday was a little different from the past few birthdays. Work got in the way (as usual) and we found ourselves glued to our phones most of the time. Woes of growing up right?

This week’s stickies are dedicated to the people whom I love ever so dearly; for loving me when I’m the least lovable and grumpy as can be. All glory goes to my Abba Father for His grace and provision. This year, my greatest wish is for good health for all the people I love (myself included) 🙂

Jia: Happy Birthday, Min! Thank you for never doubting me (not even once!) and for always being super supportive (: You are always a blast of sunshine in my life and I wish you all the happiness in the world. -throws confetti-

I am feeling so grateful and blessed this week. I just want to throw a whole lotta confetti of love around but I would most probably be fined for littering. Thank you to everyone who has shown us love and grace for the past few weeks. I never imagined such a warm reception and it has really been such an uplifting month. Hugs and kisses to all!

How was your August? Are you looking forward to September? Tell us all about it below 🙂

Love, Min+Jia.

Monthly Pinspiration // August Pins

Monthly Pinspiration // August Pins

Oh boy, it is time again for our monthly round-up of our favourite pins!

August really flew by and we were not on Pinterest as often as we would liked. Nevertheless, we still have pins that we are pretty obsessed and inspired with, and these are the ones we are going to share with you today.

Warning: I am pretty obsessed with food this month. Actually, I am always obsessed with food! 🙂

Grey Palette

Min: My kind of colours. Would love for my future home to have this exact colour palette. This is seriously for future reference!

Via divinehealthyfood

Min: Vegetable stir-fry with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy, red onions and shitake mushrooms… perfect for our vegetarian lunch! I think I could actually have this everyday with rice!

honey&gazelle // Sudoku Postcards + Zen Trio Art Prints

honey&gazelle // Sudoku Postcards + Zen Trio Art Prints

Time for another update on our latest releases that are a nice blend of fun and relaxation!

The newest on the postcard front are our Sudoku postcard series that went live last week. This series is actually dedicated to some of our favourite people in our lives who are huge Sudoku fans. We are not avid Sudoku players, wordsearch is more our thang. However, it was really fun creating and designing these postcards 🙂

We were inspired by the Japanese Dojo and wanted to compare Sudoku with Japanese martial arts. Both requires focus and determination. If you worked hard at Sudoku or in your training in the specific field of studies, you will definitely improve and move up the ranks!

The Sudoku postcard set contains four levels of difficulty that are named after Japanese hierarchy/seniority ranks. We also translated our inspiration through the watercolour dots. The dots follow the colours of the belts in martial arts and also increase in size as the puzzle gets more challenging.

Talk // 5 Random Facts

Talk // 5 Random Facts

It has been slightly more than three months since we started honey&gazelle and our blog, A Literary of Lifestyle and Love; we thought it was about time for us to share a little bit more about ourselves!

Talk is a column where you will get to know us better, and what better way is there than to start with really random facts about us?

1 // I am a fishychickytarian. I decided to become one reluctantly as I do love my meats so very dearly. However, I realised that pork was giving me the runs. -sob-

2 // My beloved dog, Junior knew all my secrets. He was the best listener and the best partner. I still miss him till this day 😦

3 // Corn is my favourite food in the whole world. I can eat corn everyday and with anything! Maybe that is why I have such a corny sense of humour. Ahahahah. Made you roll your eyes!

4 // My mum has a group of mysterious friends. Whenever I have exciting plans, my mum would relate to me about her friends or their kids’ experiences on the subject matter at hand. It always seems to end in misfortune. The strange thing is, I have never met any of those friends.

5 // I am absolutely in love with Jellycat bunny plush toys. They are so soft and cuddly, I just want to have them all! There are currently 6 bunnies, 2 cats, 1 mouse and 1 deer in my crazy collection.

1 // I’m a crazy cat lady with two cats named after Star Wars characters. On the left, meet Boba – my precious special needs kitty who is all soft and gentle. On the right is Trooper, an ADHD a**hole who gets himself into all kinds of sh*t. You can also call them “Bobby” and “Poopy”. I lurve them both soooooo much!

2 // My favourite day of the week is Saturday and I like to spend it in the darkness of my room. Why Saturday? Because it is the start of the weekend and the best day to be antisocial when everyone else is busy being social.

3 // I have terrible terrible dark eye circles. This is not an exaggeration:  I need two different concealers to look normal. When I’m not wearing any concealers, I look like this. I’m sorry to scare you.

4 // My Mandarin is horrible. I studied Chinese Calligraphy when I was young as my mom thought it would be a great way to improve my Mandarin. Nope, didn’t work; my characters are beautiful but I have no idea what I’m writing.

5 // When I was seven, I wrote in my school essay that I wanted to become a florist. That was a lie. I just wanted to draw flowers on my paper.

Tell us 5 random facts about you now!

Love, Min+Jia.

Sunday Stickies // 23 August 2015

Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually.

Woah, nelly. We are tired.

Our enthusiastic decision for honey&gazelle to participate in art markets every weekend in August has been enlightening, to say the least. We love meeting new people and telling them all about our designs and inspirations. We love getting the honey&gazelle brand out. We love that the response have been really positive; we even sold out of our wordsearch postcards last night!

However, the old ladies in us are exhausted. We are looking forward to mid September where we will have our little R&R time! Okay, not really relaxing as we will be making plans for honey&gazelle’s next big moves and products. Oh, the life of budding entrepreneurs!

Work hard, everyone! The end of the year is coming!

Min: August is all about celebrations and feasting for me cause it’s my (and my boyfriend’s) birthday month! -Proceeds to do the Boogie dance- I should be celebrating and all but… my head’s heavy and thoughts are fuzzy. I have no idea how I survived this week actually. But I do know that I’m sure not feeling very hyper even after drinking x cups of coffee. #realityofage is real! Eeks!

Going meatless for lunch in August has opened my eyes to the world of vegetables. When Jia and I decided to do this, I thought I was gonna give up by mid month and head straight for a plate of meat. But… nope. I’m still going strong (except when I had to use a cheat day #birthdayperks) Now, to make sure I drink at least 3L of water a day…

Jia: I am sure I have said this before in previous weeks, but this week went by in a fuzzy state of blur. Life, as an insomniac and workaholic gets pretty hazy. By Friday night, I was jabbering nonsense at the art market, unable to fully express my thoughts coherently. Someone, press the shut-down button on this robot please!

How was your week? Are you getting enough sleep?

Love, Min+Jia.

Explore // Neuchâtel, Switzerland

Explore // Neuchâtel, Switzerland

Neuchâtel is a magical place to me.

I made an impromptu day trip down to Neuchâtel on a really erratic spring day. The weather went from bright and sunny, to rainy and breezy, to dark and freezing all within a few hours. However, I still left the city with warm memories and a lasting impression that it is an ideal destination for a lovely summer day.

A little background on the butter-coloured town. Neuchâtel literally means “new castle” when you translate it directly into English. It is a small university city that is very compact and easy to explore on foot. Situated on the shores of Lac de Neuchâtel, the city has an airy and charming vibe that I immediately fell in love with. I wished that I was studying there!

This explore post is severely lacking recommendations for eating and accommodations as I was there on a Sunday (read: ghost town) and it was just a day trip.

Visit // Church of Notre Dame de Neuchâtel

While making our way to the lake, my BFF and I were drawn to the Red Church, as it is also called. It was so striking that we saw it from a distance and walked straight to it. The interior continued the red theme and was filled with neo-gothic details that my brain just shut down with the overload of beauty.

Tutorial // The Simplest Way To Digitise Your Hand-Lettering

Tutorial // The Simplest Way To Digitise Your Hand-Lettering

“How do you digitise your hand-lettering?” is one of the frequently asked questions at our booth and also via email and Instagram direct messaging.

There are actually a lot of different ways to digitise anything, so I am going to teach you the simplest and most effective method that I use the most. Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to digitise your hand-lettering in minutes! The end result is a vector which means you will be able to scale your work to any size without losing image quality. Yay!

For this tutorial, you need your completed piece, a scanner or camera, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. You can also use any photo-editing software in replacement of Photoshop, however I still find Photoshop the best for prepping anything that is about to be worked on in Illustrator.

Let’s start!

Curate // Current Hats and Caps Crushes

Curate // Current Hats and Caps Crushes

One of the strangest things about living in Singapore is the lack of headgear-wearers. You would think that an always sunny island would be full of cap and hat wearing citizens, but nope. It is a pretty rare sight!

Now, I am a fan of hats and the occasional caps! I don’t really wear earrings or much makeup; hats help to dress up my look and also add some interest to my face.

I have been online window shopping these days with the intention of expanding my headwear collection, and I thought to share some of my favourite finds with you! You will see that I tend to favour bigger floppy hats. I think they are super pretty and very functional as a wider brim shades better. I have also picked two caps that I think Jia would love. As you can probably tell, I’m so eager to shop!

1 // ONE by Artesano Classico Hat – A portion of the proceeds will be donated to TECHO, a youth-led NGO that promotes community development in Latin America and the Caribbean. This fedora is great for all outfits, sharp or casual!

2 // Market HQ Summer Floppy Hat – A classic hat that will never go out of style. Makes me feel like going on a beach vacation now!

3 // ASOS Straw Tie Back Visor – I think this is one of the cutest visors I have ever seen! I think it will look great with casual outfits.

4 // Janessa Leone Juhl Hat – I am digging the leather ties on this straw visor. This visor looks so elegant and chic! As you can probably tell, I am pretty into straw visors these days!

Sunday Stickies // 16 August 2015

Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually.

August feels like it is running away from us. We can’t believe that it is the middle of the month already. What is it going to be next – Christmas?!

To describe our week in one word – overwhelming. We have been rushing custom designs for clients and our new product designs all week, plus the preparation of art market (MAAD) which was just over, amongst other things! Phew, we can do this though.

honey&gazelle will be participating in two more art markets this month as part of the Night Fest activities, with the closest upcoming market on 21 and 22 August at CHIJMES Hall from 6pm to 11pm. Our last market for the month is on 29 August at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) from 7pm to 2am. Min is a little freaked out by the timing for that as she will most probably become a zombie by 11pm! The early bird catches the worm because she does not stay up to party.

Some updates on our personal week and vegetarian diet below!

Min: It’s a known fact that I am a compulsive snacker. I always have snacks in my bag. My office drawer is filled with snacks. And I can binge on snacks all day long and still have Guacamole and chips for dinner. To be honest, going vegetarian for lunch is pretty easy for me and I can foresee myself eating more greens and less meat in the future! But… with all that clean and green goodness going on, I find it hard to snack cause it feels like I’m breaking my ‘healthy’ momentum. Do I make sense? So this month, I’m trying my best to snack on healthier options. Keywords: TRYING MY BEST.

It has been one crazy week with very little sleep but my heart’s swelling with happiness and warmth. A big hello to those who popped by our booth at every art market to say hello! It really means a lot of us! 🙂 And to my dearest Jia and her other half, blessed anniversary you two! You guys are my favourite duo! ❤ ❤ ❤

Jia: Going vegetarian for lunch for the past 16 days does not seem to have any effect on my skin. I have actually sprouted two zits that I am pretty sad about! Hopefully things will look up by the end of the month. I have been finding it relatively easy to keep up with the vegetarian meals and have also been cutting down on the meats for dinner. However, I don’t think I can become a vegetarian completely. Gimme my tuna and bacon (though not together)!

This weekend is one of love, fun and happiness! My boyfriend and I celebrated (and are still celebrating on Sunday) our 9th year anniversary. Sounds crazy right? We spent yesterday at Universal Studios doing what I love the most – riding rollercoasters – and it always warms my sometimes cold heart whenever we do so. Why? Because my boyfriend hates rollercoasters and heights. This, my friend, is true love. ❤ 🙂

Tell us how your week went in the comments section below!

Love, Min+Jia.

We have been in a celebratory mood and it clearly shows from our recent releases. For the past two weeks, we have been celebrating life and love through fireworks, florals, and hearts.

Fireworks Mini Art Print Set
Fireworks Mini Art Print Set

We designed this series of fireworks as a tribute to Singapore’s 50th birthday. There are always many beautiful fireworks in August and they are our favourite!

We have portrayed fireworks as minimalistic and modern patterns in this set. Each print uses the same colour palette and motifs but are created with different themes.

Let’s take a closer look at the four designs and themes!
